What is an electric brake controller?
An electric brake controller is a control unit that allows you to control the trailer brakes from the driver’s seat and automatically applies the trailer brakes when the tow vehicles brakes are applied.
How does an electric brake controller work?
An electric brake controller is a device that sends a signal from your vehicle’s brakes through the 7-pin hook-up on your hitch, to your trailer. Your trailer has brakes already, but they won’t work unless you install a brake controller who can interpret the signal.
Do I need an electric brake controller installed on my vehicle?
You will need a brake controller fitted to your vehicle if the trailer you are towing has an electric or electric over hydraulic brakes installed on it.
How do I test if my electric brake controller is working?
We suggest pressing the override/emergency braking while travelling at low speed to confirm that everything is connected and electric brake are been activated.
What size wire should be used for an electric brake controller?
Every Electric brake controller manufacturer has the specifics in their fitting instructions. This however is normally 5mm automotive cable or 2.90mm² cable.
Which electric brake controller is best?
We highly recommend the RedArc TowPro Elite V3 as it is less intrusive in the vehicle and is fully automatic.
